Representatives of Colorado Citizens for Canine Welfare were among those who testified at the Colorado Springs city council meeting March 14, 2023 in favor of limitations on the sale of commercially-bred dogs in local pet stores.

The proposed ordinance would have required pet retailers to source at least half of the dogs and cats it sold each year from public animal control shelters or animal rescue organizations beginning April 1, 2024. The ordinance was a softened version proposed earlier that would have banned the sale of commercially bred dogs and cats sold in pet stores.

Unfortunately, both ordinances were rejected by the city council.
