Colorado’s pet stores consistently tell customers that their puppies come from responsible breeders. The truth is that they purchase puppies largely from out-of-state commercial puppy breeders and brokers. Through open access to State of Colorado import documents (available through Colorado Veterinary Inspection reports), Colorado Citizens for Canine Welfare has discovered that from 2019 and 2022, over 90% came from breeders who violated the standards set by USDA. That represented a total of over 30K puppies!
